Gorilla Tracking for a week.
A set departure itinerary which combines well with a safari in Tanzania and Kenya. This itinerary starts on Tuesday and ends on Tuesday on the following dates: 16 Mar, 13 Apr, 4 May, 1 Jun, 20 Jul, 10 Aug, 28 Sep, 26 Oct, 16 Nov, 21 Dec.
Day 1
You will be met on arrival at the airport and transfer to Kigali where you’ll enjoy lunch and a gorilla safari briefing. After lunch, you will depart for Parc Nationale des Volcans. The journey from Kigali will take you northwards through the beautiful stepped hillsides that characterise Rwanda’s landscape. Gradually you’ll climb to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes, for your first night on safari in Rwanda at Virunga Lodge.
Day 2
In the morning after a hearty breakfast you will set out gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans for which you require permits which are booked by us as part of your itinerary. A gorilla safari through the lush mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical experience and one that isn’t forgotten. If you are lucky you can get to the gorillas in the lower slopes you’ll spend an hour or so with them and be back in time for lunch at your lodge. Some times the gorillas can be a little elusive and it may take a little longer to find them especially when the slopes are wet and muddy. After an active day you will return to Virunga Lodge to over night.
Day 3
Today you can go gorilla tracking again or alternatively you can visit the golden monkeys or drive to Gisenyi, visit Ros Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu or climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, before returning to Virunga Lodge for an overnight stay again.
Day 4
In the morning you can relax after breakfast or head out for a walk near the Lodge and perhaps trek to Dian Fossey's grave or visit the local community projects. After lunch you will transfer to Uganda for an overnight stay at Mount Gahinga Lodge.
Day 5
This morning you can gorilla track again, in Mgahinga or Nkuringo or climb a volcano, go for a nature walk, or visit the golden monkeys in Mgahinga. Before spending the night again at Mount Gahinga Lodge.
Day 6
This morning you will drive to Bwindi through the Alps of Africa, following the winding roads and through the hills and valleys enjoying the views as you go of imposing volcanoes and vast lakes. Before you arrive at Bwindi Lodge where you will overnight.
Day 7
Today you can chose to track the gorillas again and climb the steep densely forested hills before you finally catch a glimpse of black against green in the thicket. A very breath taking moment! Tracking in Bwindi requires a little more stamina and can often take most of the day as the gorillas are often further afield. Alternatively is you prefer a more leisurely day you can go for a visit to the local communities or enjoy a nature walk near the lodge. Overnight once again at Bwindi lodge.
Day 8
This morning you will leave for Kigali in Rwanda via Kabale and Katuna. Whilst transferring to the airport you may have the option of visiting a local market or the genocide memorial.
