A long weekend in Rwanda.

A set departure itinerary which combines well with a safari in Tanzania and Kenya. This itinerary starts on Saturday and ends on Tuesday on the following dates: 27 Feb, 13/27 Mar, 3/17 Apr, 1/29 May, 5/26 Jun, 3/24 Jul, 14/21 Aug,11/25 Sep, 9/23Oct, 20/27 Nov, 18/25 Dec.
Day 1 SATURDAY

You will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to Kigali. After an informative briefing and lunch, you’ll depart for Parc Nationale des Volcans at 2pm. Your journey will take your north through the beautiful terraced hillsides that characterise much of Rwanda's landscape, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes, which sometimes with as many as five peaks visible. You will then stay over night at Virunga Lodge.


Day 2 SUNDAY

After a wonderful night sleep you will set out after breakfast to track the gorillas. Gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans is subject to permit availability which will be booked by us as part of your itinerary. Your first day on your gorilla safari in Rwanda see you exploring the lush undergrowth of the impressive slopes of the Virungas with a watchful eye out for the black shapes that with a little luck will eventually emerge from the surrounding thicket. Tracking the gorillas is a magical and unforgettable experience. After spending up to an hour with the gorillas you will be back at your safari lodge in time for a sumptuous well earned late lunch! Occasionally the gorillas can be a little elusive and it may take up to a day of gorilla tracking to find them. You will once again overnight at Virunga Lodge.


Day 3 MONDAY

Once again you will have the opportunity to go gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans or if you prefer you can visit the golden monkeys or drive to Gisenyi, visit Ros Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu or climb the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes, or trek to Dian Fossey's grave, or visit the local school, community projects or walk to Lake Bulera. After another eventful day you will overnight at Virunga Lodge.


Day 4 TUESDAY

On day four you will depart once again for Kigali. If time permits it maybe possible to tour the city to visit local markets, see the pottery projects, handicraft shops and the genocide memorial before you transfer finally to the airport.


This itinerary is available from £1,421 per person sharing a twin rom. It is full board and includes all land transfers, guiding and one gorilla permit (more can be requested at time of booking). The itinerary excludes international airfares and taxes which can be booked directly with Opulent Africa.
